The ward

In a dark room, Adam sits in front of a glowing red button. A robotic voice says, “Press the button… or the world ends in 30 seconds.” His hand shakes. He remembers his mother, his friends, his city. He whispers, “What if it’s just a trick?” The countdown begins: “5… 4…” He slams the button! Silence. A screen lights up: “Thank you for participating in the Pressure Control Test. You passed.” Adam smiles… Then the room locks again.
