The wind clawed at Elara's cloak, threatening to rip her from the precipice. Below, the valley sprawled, a tapestry of greens and browns stitched together by the silver thread of the Serpent's River. She gripped the hilt of her sword, the cold steel a familiar comfort against the tremor in her hands. He would come. She knew it as surely as she knew the sun would rise. A shadow fell across the stone beside her. "Admiring the view, Elara?" The voice, smooth as polished obsidian, sent a shiver down her spine. Kaelen. He was tall, impossibly so, with eyes like chips of glacial ice and hair the color of a raven's wing. He wore dark, intricate armor that seemed to absorb the very light around him. "It's a pretty picture," he continued, "but soon, it will all be mine." He raised a hand, and a dark energy crackled around his fingertips. He said, "Join me, and you can rule by my side." Elara spat on the ground near his feet.
