Kutlu Mızrak

The rain tasted like ash. It always did in this part of Porthaven. I pulled my trench coat tighter, the damp wool doing little to ward off the chill that seeped into my bones. A flickering gas lamp cast long, distorted shadows that danced with the swirling mist, painting the alley in shades of gray and despair. I fished a cigarette from my pack, the sulfurous tang of the match a brief reprieve from the pervasive stench of the docks. Tonight, the air hung heavy with salt and something else… something acrid, like burnt sugar. The kind you smell when a pixie deal goes south. My source said the information I needed was stashed behind the old fish market. *I walked deeper into the alley.* I took another drag, the ember glowing like a defiant eye in the gloom. I needed to find what my source spoke about. *I saw a glint of metal under the lamp.*
