The wind clawed at Elara's cloak, threatening to rip her from the precipice. Below, the valley stretched, an endless tapestry of green and gold stitched together by the silver thread of the Whispering River. She gripped the hilt of her sword, the familiar weight a small comfort against the vastness. He would come. She knew it as surely as she knew the sun would rise. A voice, smooth as polished obsidian, shattered the silence. "Admiring your kingdom, Elara? Soon to be mine, of course." Kaelen stepped into view, his tall frame silhouetted against the crimson sunset. His black armor seemed to drink the light, and his silver hair, long and unbound, whipped around a face carved with cruel beauty. Elara turned, her emerald eyes narrowed. "This will never be yours, Kaelen." "Such defiance," he chuckled, a chilling sound. He raised his hand, and a ripple of dark energy pulsed outward, striking Elara and sending her stumbling back from the cliff edge.
