The wind clawed at Gareth's cloak as he stood at the precipice, the valley stretching before him like a rumpled green carpet. He gripped the hilt of his sword, the familiar weight a small comfort against the vastness. Below, the river snaked through the land, a silver ribbon reflecting the dying light. He could almost taste the storm brewing in the distance, the air thick with ozone and the promise of violence. A dry chuckle echoed behind him. "Admiring your future kingdom, Gareth?" He turned to face the speaker, his hand never leaving his sword. Kael stood a few paces back, a tall, gaunt figure swathed in black. His face, framed by lank, greasy hair, was a mask of cruel amusement. Kael's eyes, like chips of obsidian, glittered with dark power. "It will never be yours, Kael." Gareth spat, his voice tight with anger. Kael raised his hand and blasted gareth with a spell knocking him back. Gareth hit the ground with a thud.
